How to write “Homepage” & “About Us” and their importance

“Homepage” and “About Us” are the most common and popular pages found in 99% of websites. (However, we may not find “About Us” page in some of the Fortune-500 companies as they feel that they require no introduction).
Homepage: It is like an official face of the whole website. A web developer must be highly cautious while designing its content and design as the home page creates the first impression on the visitors. The homepage must express what the organization is all about and what it does.
Homepage should consist of:
·         Basic introduction of your company
·         Your offerings
·         Navigation to other pages
About Us: As mentioned above, 99% of websites contain the “About Us” page, which gives a narration about the organization. However, some of the leading companies and monopolies in the market may hesitate to include “About Us” page as they opine that they require no introduction. But, it is not a good practice as arrogance kills productive levels of an organization how big it may be.
The “About Us” page must include following details:
·         About Founder(s)
·         Partners
·         Clients
·         Team details
·         Core competencies
·         History
Importance of “About Us”: Customers may want to know about the company before making-up their mind to buy something or one of the services. “About Us” page enhances the trust among readers about an organization and its operations, products and services, transportation and delivery. This page is mandatory for Commercial sites because users want to know who are behind the commercial venture and whether it is genuine or not. Non-profits and charitable organizations too include this page as it enables them to raise funds and donations from donors.
People with different levels of knowledge may want to know about your organization due to different reasons. For example:
  • Those, who want to buy shares in your company, definitely want to know about the history and current financial conditions and operations of your company
  • Journalists who want to prepare a report about your company
  • Job seekers, who were attracted by one of your ads, may want to know more about the organization before applying for a post in your company
Even the biggest company shows its existence only with a few pages and images in a browser window. Your site is what ultimately represents your organization to users.
